October Month In Review

9 hours, 42 minutes and 1 second. That's my October playtime according to TempusGameIt, and for once the number is actually accurate! For the first time in a few months, I didn't screw up an update or forget to scan in a new game, so the data reflects what I really played. Go me!

For a little perspective, before the move I'd routinely put 40 to 60 hours a month into games. So, yeah, nobody is handing me the Altoholic of the Month trophy. But it's nice to have a number I can trust, even if it's a small one.

The rest of the stats tell the same story. My average session was 34 minutes and my longest streak was 3 days. Run the math and that's about 17 sessions for the month, which is a lot of short little bursts and not much else.

Here's where the time went:

  • Final Fantasy XIV: 3 hours
  • World of Warcraft: 3 hours
  • Aion 2: 2 hours

A three-way tie at the top, except one of the three is a game I quit halfway through the month. Let's start there.  The difference between that total of 8 and the grand total of 9 hours and 42 minutes is how it's rounding the play time for each individual game.

FFXIV, briefly, again

I gave FFXIV another shot early in the month and ran straight into a required main story trial with a queue of nearly an hour. Combine that with the usual wall of cutscenes and clicking through dialogue, and I just wasn't having fun. Too much watching, not enough playing. I unsubscribed again.

If the tracker counted that queue time, and I have no reason to think it didn't, close to a third of my FFXIV month was spent waiting for permission to play FFXIV. That's a ratio I wouldn't accept from anything else in my life.

Aion 2

Aion 2 got its usual couple of hours of dabbling. Nothing new to report there.

Back to Azeroth

The good news is the back half of the month. I've been playing more WoW whenever I've had the time, mostly running delves and knocking out quests. Delves are pretty much perfect for someone whose average session is 34 minutes. Pick one, run it, get something for your trouble, log off.

And I finally got the 4-piece set bonus! It's a nice feeling after a few months of barely logging in. That said, quite a few of those pieces still need upgrading, so I'm calling it a set bonus with homework attached.

Real life

October was my first full month living in the new place after the summer's move, and a lot of my time went into actually building a life here rather than sitting at the PC. That's a good problem to have. It just doesn't make for big gaming numbers.

Looking ahead to November

More of the same, I think. More delves, more questing, and a long list of upgrades to work through on that set. If the back half of October is any guide, WoW is going to get most of whatever time I have, and maybe this time next month it'll have the top spot all to itself.

That's it for now!

Cheers!

Joar
